Delighted to Share My Grounded Feature on Finding Calm When the World Feels Uncertain

A recent Grounded magazine feature exploring breathwork, mindfulness and calming techniques to support emotional wellbeing during uncertain times.

I’m delighted to share a recent piece I wrote for Grounded magazine, a publication rooted in wellbeing, thoughtful living and modern ways of caring for ourselves.

The feature, Finding Calm When the World Feels Uncertain, explores how simple breath and body awareness can help us return to steadiness during times of stress, overwhelm and emotional noise.

With so much happening globally, alongside the pace and demands of everyday life, it can be easy to carry tension without fully recognising it. The article looks at how mindful breathing, grounding and small shifts in attention can help settle the nervous system, soften the body and create moments of calm, even when life around us feels busy or uncertain.

It was a lovely piece to write because it reflects something I often return to in my own life and in my work through Together we Breathe, whether in corporate wellbeing sessions, one to one support, talks, workshops or immersive retreats.

Sometimes calm does not come from waiting for life to become quieter, but from learning how to reconnect with ourselves wherever we are.

Across the Borders: A Wellbeing and Safari Retreat in Zimbabwe and Botswana

Across Borders and Into the Wild: Chobe River & National Park Safari

"Group photo at Victoria Falls with rainbows and smiles on Together we Breathe's Wellbeing and Safari Retreat."

Onward for the next part of our journey, we crossed the border into Botswana another stamp in the passport (which I always love!) and made our way to the Chobe River for an unforgettable boat cruise.

“Guests on a boat safari along the Chobe River in Botswana with elephants on the riverbank, part of Together we Breathe’s wellbeing and safari retreat.”

Cruising the Chobe River, Hundreds of Elephants and Wildlife Everywhere

It was a stunning day spent cruising up the Chobe River into Chobe National Park. Our expert guide shared stories about the animals, their habits and habitats, and helped us spot incredible wildlife.

Botswana is home to more elephants than anywhere else in the world, over 110,000 and around 60,000 of those live in Chobe. We saw hundreds of elephants that day, gathered together in herds and family groups, with babies trailing close by. It was a spectacular sight, and so different from my last visit.

We also spotted pods of hippos, giant crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks, and a dazzling array of birds some I’d never seen before. It was another magical day, rich with life and colour, and a reminder of why a safari in Botswana is such a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“Sunrise from our camp in Chobe National Park, Botswana, during Together we Breathe’s wellbeing and safari retreat.”

Camping Under the Stars in Chobe National Park

After our river safari, we headed to our new home for the night: a camp set up deep inside Chobe National Park. The team had prepared everything, cosy tents equipped with everything we needed, and even a warm, hearty feast to enjoy by the fire.

That evening, we sat around the campfire sharing stories, learning more about local culture, animals, and connecting with the wonderful team from Munga Plains. It was another special night, the kind of evening that makes you feel both humbled by nature and nourished by community.

As we drifted off to sleep, we couldn’t help but wonder what animals might be roaming nearby. And yet, we felt safe, protected, and energised by the magic of this wild place.

Sunrise Safari — Wildlife and Wonder in Chobe

The next morning started early with a sunrise safari. Another epic African sunrise painted the sky, followed by breakfast back at camp. But the most unforgettable moment came when a magnificent elephant wandered gently through our camp, my closest encounter yet. It’s an image that will stay with me forever.

Even our showers were special, beautifully constructed among the trees, where you could look up to the sky as the water poured over you. Simple, grounding, magical and with hot water!

Later that day, we headed out again and were treated to more unforgettable sightings: a leopard moving silently through the bush, hundreds of pelicans gathered along the water, and even lions with their cubs playing close by.

From Safari to Stillness — Journey to Munga Plains

Every moment felt alive with wonder, another reminder of how precious, wild and powerful this part of the world is.

As we left the wilds of Chobe National Park, we made our way towards Munga Plains our final destination for this Together we Breathe Wellbeing and Safari Retreat. The drive was almost silent, each of us reflecting on the last few days: the elephants, the hippos, the big cats, the vast African skies.

There was a shared sense of awe and transition from our busy lives back home to this deep immersion in nature, wildlife, and wellbeing here in Africa. The shift was undeniable.

Everyone was filled with excitement for what lay ahead: grounding practices in our beautiful shala at Munga Plains, time for movement, yoga and breathwork, nourishing food, and the stillness that allows space for connection and reflection.

This was the perfect moment to pause, absorb the richness of our safari experience in Botswana, and look forward to the next chapter of our retreat a chance to go deeper into wellbeing, restoration, and community.

From the Zambezi to Munga Plains: A Wellbeing & Safari Retreat in the Heart of Africa

"Group photo at Victoria Fall's with rainbows and smiles on Together we Breathe's Wellbeing and Safari Retreat"

"Group photo at Victoria Fall's with rainbows and smiles on Together we Breathe's Wellbeing and Safari Retreat."

I’m writing this from Munga Plains in Botswana, tucked away in the wild beauty of the African bush. This is the final stop on our Together we Breathe Wellbeing & Safari Retreat, and I’m still soaking in every moment.

This journey has taken us from Victoria Falls to Chobe National Park, and now here, to this peaceful eco-lodge where we’re spending our final days moving slowly, sharing meals under the stars, and connecting deeply with ourselves, each other, and the natural world.

"Rainbow over Victoria Falls during Together we Breathe's wellbeing and safari retreat"

Victoria Falls: Rainbows, Markets & River Magic

We began with two nights in Victoria Falls, exploring the iconic landmark known as “The Smoke That Thunders.” We were lucky enough to witness double rainbows, some of the brightest I’ve ever seen and I’m so curious to return in April 2026, when the Falls will be in full flow after the rainy season.

I also joined my first e-bike tour on a Bamba bike, cycling through the town, exploring local markets, and enjoying lunch along the Zambezi River a perfect way to ease into the pace of life here.

"Traditional dinner at Dusty Road, Victoria Falls, during Together we Breathe's Africa wellbeing retreat"

A Taste of Zimbabwe: Dusty Road Dining

Our evening at Dusty Road was a vibrant open-air celebration of local flavours and culture. This set-menu experience meant we tasted everything from aromatic curries to fresh grains and vibrant vegetables, and indulgent desserts.

The team supports the local children’s school, and we were treated to beautiful traditional singing at dinner. Their cookbook and craft store are well worth a visit if you’re in Victoria Falls.

Group sunrise yoga session on a boat on the Zambezi River, with elephants on the riverbanks, during Together we Breathes' wellbeing and safari retreat"

Sunrise Yoga on the Zambezi River

One of the most magical moments: sunrise yoga on a boat, arranged with the help of Victoria Falls Yoga, our wellbeing facilitator in Zimbabwe. As the boat drifted gently along the river, the dawn sky turned pink and gold, and the enormous sun rose above the horizon while we moved, breathed, and found stillness together. Absolutely unforgettable, a true moment of awe! And there were ample elephants, hippos and other amazing animals along the way!

This journey has gifted us countless sunrises, sunsets, and even a lunar eclipse, nothing like I’ve ever experienced before. The sun has been a glorious, radiant pink unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
